Welcome to Beatles Plane 2008:

Hope things are going well. Any news to report?

Before we get to the cool rock and roll I wanted to dedicate the post to Pink Floyd member Richard Wright. It was confirmed today that he had passed away at age 65 from cancer. Details were not prevalent but it seems he had been ill a lot longer than what was made public. One of the interesting things about rock and roll is how even bands that sell records in great magnitudes such as Pink Floyd, Yes, and Deep Purple for examples have periods that are often overlooked. When the average person talks about the Floyd it is Dark Side Of The Moon. The early stuff with Syd is terrific to this day. A shame he is gone and how he burnt out so fast. The third Yes album is often thought of as their first. People forget the self-titled and the rather enjoyable Time And A Word. Deep Purple had 3 superlative records when Rod Evans handled the vocals “Shades”, “Book”, and the self-titled third release. Today if you have some time how about in memory of Rick Wright you listen to some very early Floyd and see if it isn’t something you would want in the CD collection. Almost the entire universe already has Rick represented with Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall but there was plenty of great sounds before and some (not enough) with Syd.

This is a unique version of a John Lennon tune that is obviously one of the finest songs ever penned. The Jefferson Starship will do a lot with it. Check out the 2 fold approach.

First the music is played but the lyrics are from the “Redemption Song”.

Secondly you actually hear the music and words of Imagine blended together during the performance at the Brookdale Inn, Brookdale, California from July 18, of 2008. 7/18/08

It’s Beatles From The Vaults #95 and you have a front row seat. Enjoy the tune and the dayy. Thanks for boarding the flight.

Greetings from Pictures At A Jefferson Exhibition:

I thank you for spending this time on our weekend flight. How are things going? A quick thank you. Overnight Friday into Saturday morning on the Yahoo Buzz Entertainment Postings the most up and coming story was on my new Jefferson Starship book “Have You Seen The Saucers.” Things change every several hours, but the fact people would take the time to publicize the book is a wonderful feeling. Thank you so much. For those that have purchased the book and or the 2 CD special set “Have You Seen The Circus Tent Tonite” (w/the Cathy Richardson interview) thank you 1,000,000 light years.

A couple of goodies from the Rock Tent Vaults. How about the Jefferson Starship in Europe 2002.

Marty Balin and Paul Kantner doing their thing on:

Volunteers

We then fly back to 1971. A fairly new Emerson, Lake, & Palmer having fun in Europe. You’ll see 15 photos of the band. This is added to the already nice section they have of their own.

Take your time and please look to the right on this page so you can see all the cool exploration that goes on. We had Beatles this week, Cream pictures, Jefferson Family goodies, etc.

See the show! Be well and thanks!

Welcome to the Air Rock & Roll Monday Studio:

I hope the weekend was all you shrived for. A cool combination of sound and sight as we begin the Monday flight.

A quick timeout to wish actress Christina Applegate 100 percent recovery from the breast cancer diagnosis. She always has been respectful of her family and at 36 years of age shouldn’t have to battle anything.

We fly back to 1971 for Neil Young and his performance on the great Johnny Cash Show. In addition a few photos from his appearance will be available for your viewing pleasure.

Welcome to a perfect day in Airplane land:

Hope the week went well and you are heading toward a nice couple of days off.

Good stuff from the Rock Tent Vault. How about a bit of a classic tune mixed with one the Airplane didn’t record so Paul would do that on his own and a turkey that isn’t going to be part of Thanksgiving. It’s all here in free-flight! Buckle up and enjoy the sounds of the past. Real rock and roll from the J.A.

you listen and soak it all in!  Listen twice!!!

How are things going tonight?  I hope the day

went well for you.  I’ve been in the Rock Tent

searching for the gems.  Most of the times

they are picked by your cool requests.

Thanks for your support.

If you have noticed I have spread out the different type of songs

and the years they were recorded.  I am cognizant (Did I come

Hello and welcome to Tuesday in Airplane land:

How are you this morning?  There is a goody from the vault.  The Airplane with Friend the late great Nicky Hopkins on keyboards and never forgetting the late great group member Spencer Dryden.

From Dick Cavett August 18, 69 for playback the next day, the Airplane “We Can Be Together” w/cool guest Nicky Hopkins. We miss you Spencer, and Nicky!   Mr. Hopkins played with the Airplane at Woodstock and stayed 1 more day to perform on the Dick Cavett taping.

Check out a couple of things.  Joni Mitchell is sitting with Dick Cavett and she seems to enjoy the Airplane’s music and Grace has mentioned over the years when she has trouble hearing she’ll cup her hand near her ear.  In the early portion of the tune she clearly will search for a better stage sound.

I’ve been a Yankee fanatic since 1967.  In my younger days I would hide a small radio under the pillow so I could hear the west coast games.  You never get used to losing.  Mike Mussina has decided he would like an E.R.A. over 6.  For you non baseball fans a starting pitcher in the American League could be considered doing their job with an E.R.A. around 3.50.  E.R.A. means earned run average.  It is how many runs the pitcher is responsible per game.  The term earned is used because if a player makes an error they may end up giving the other team a run that isn’t earned against the pitcher.

Hope your baseball team is better than mine!

Have a great day and always check back for the rarities.  The latest Aircast was posted yesterday and it has the remaining tunes from the Jam with Garcia, Hart, Jorma, Jack and friends from 1968!  There is about 25 minutes of music for you!

Be well always,

craig
